A Milestone: FX2-Division Line

Transit along the Division corridor took a huge leap forward in 2022 with the completion of TriMet FX™ – the agency’s Frequent Express service. It fulfilled the need for fast, reliable transportation for people who live, work, and travel within the corridor.

TriMet FX™’s near-level boarding at stations, dedicated lanes with transit signal priorities, and culturally sensitive design of shelters and wayfaring signs are the results of a participatory planning process, multiagency cooperation, political involvement, and innovative contracting and funding processes. Its high ridership underscores the success of the line.

Community members were involved with every step of the process—from identifying focus areas to developing steps for improvement. Outreach was conducted in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, and Mandarin. Engaging the community built trust, project support, and a sense of empowerment.

Funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation made the Division Avenue transportation a reality. Raimore, a minority-owned company, won the contract to construct the line.

Looking Towards the Next Project

Next up is the 82nd Avenue Transit Project, whose purpose is to improve transit speed, reliability, capacity, safety, and access on 82nd Avenue, which is one of the most important transit corridors in the region. The project seeks to address the needs of people who live, work, learn, shop, and travel within the corridor both today and in the future, including Black, Indigenous, and people of color and individuals who have lower-incomes. Construction could begin as early as 2027, and FX service could start running on 82nd Avenue as early as 2030.
