Training Others to Advocate for Better Work Environments

In 2010, the California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative organized a grassroots campaign for better work conditions with Bay Area salon workers, many of them immigrant women who spoke poor English. This campaign led to the establishment of California’s county health department-certified system of healthy nail salons.

To ensure that all participating nail salons have the tools to create a healthy working environment, the California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative leads trainings and seminars with its members. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, The California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative developed training for Asian salon workers and owners in response to the anti-Asian hate and violence, although violence issues in salons existed before the pandemic.
