In Conclusion
We All Deserve to Belong captures some exceptional efforts to advance health made by people from all walks of life across the U.S. It tells stories about communities pursuing healthy societies that value all citizens.
Reflecting a broad range of community-based issues faced by diverse populations living in diverse environments and societal conditions, the stories are linked through their connections to addressing the social and systemic structures that contribute to health and health disparities. The populations involved are very different from each other. The health disparity issues they seek to lessen or eliminate, and the approaches they use to do so, are just as diverse. However, we challenge visitors to note the common threads among them.
Furthermore, this exhibition illustrates how health equity can be addressed at local, state and national levels. Each story highlights the kinds of community partnerships that are being built by institutions and invested individuals to jointly achieve health through social, cultural, economic, and even political action. We celebrate the efforts being made by these communities and institutions seeking to promote optimal health for all and thank them for their efforts.
About the Artist
Blaze Bautista is a visual artist and arts activist living in Los Angeles, California. The California Partnership for the Future of Learning commissioned her to create an original work to spark the public’s ability to reimagine the power and potential of schools to be hubs of joy, belonging, healing, celebration, and opportunity for all.
Blaze has stated that “this piece represents the act of working together as a community to support one another, create change and grow.” To us, the artwork represents the spirit of this exhibition and our goal to share stories about how people across the U.S. are working to achieve health equity for all.
